OUR HISTORY
Christ Community's Beginnings:
Praising God for our Past, Present and Future
Christ Community Church began as a home Bible study of four couples in the summer of 1986. This small group of believers called their first full-time pastor in November of that year and began Sunday worship service in January 1987. In their early years they met in several locations, including the First Union Bank Conference Room, the Holiday Inn Conference Room, and the Southern Pines Civic Club. By 1989 the church was formally supporting missionaries. Today, Christ Community Church devotes 15% of its budget to missions and outreach.
Pastor Bill Korver was the second pastor of Christ Community Church and served the Church for thirteen years. The church continued to relocate several times until the property at 387 West Pennsylvania was purchased in 1998. In 2004 Pastor Korver resigned to assume the Presidency of Carolina Bible College and Pastor Ron Ayers served as Interim Pastor until Dean Engebretson came in March 2005.
In the past three years, Christ Community Church has changed its name, its mission statement, and created a new vision document that reflects our future direction. We have purchased 8.7 acres of land in Pinehurst for a new campus; held a very successful capital campaign; sold our building in Southern Pines; relocated to temporary quarters in Pinehurst; engaged a builder and designed a new, beautiful church campus for construction in three phases; will have been issued a building permit by the Village of Pinehurst; and expect to complete construction of the first phase and move in by mid 2009.
Ministry planning and growth has followed our new mission and vision, beginning with the creation of a new leadership and ministry team infrastructure. God has brought young families into our church, Sunday worship attendance has substantially increased; small groups have grown with 70% of our adults participating; new program leadership has sparked growth in middle and high school youth participation; and a new and exciting dimension has been added to the music ministry and worship experience with the call of Rob Ely to the new position of Worship Leader on June 1, 2008. Looking to the future under the direction of our Lord, we are praying for and expect further significant growth in our ministry reach as our community moves into new facilities.
